This past Sunday I had six young girls, ages 8 to 13 over for tea and etiquette class. We covered how to sit at the table; straight and don't slouch and no elbows please. The use of a serviette (napkin); dab the corners of your mouth not mop your face. Sip your tea not slurp and make noises. Please pass the jam Leah, don't reach in front of others.

We then discussed answering the telephone properly;"hello, this is the Adams residence, this is Mary speaking, whom did you wish to speak to?" After Mary found out who the caller wanted to speak to she would say, "just a moment please, I'll get him/her." Mary then laid the phone down gently and went to give the message to the person the call was for. Never yell aloud when holding the telephone.
